Sewer
Beginning in July 2026, the City of Vista collects the sewer service charge on the property tax bill instead of sending a separate bill. Residential sewer charges are a flat rate per unit: $744 a year for a single-family home in fiscal year 2026/27 under the City of Vista rate sheet; Buena Sanitation District homes inside Vista city limits pay $716 (county and San Marcos parts of Buena pay $650).
Ways to pay less
- Low-income residents: Lifeline Sewer Rebate. The City of Vista's Lifeline Sewer Rebate Program helps qualifying low-income residents within the incorporated City with sewer service charges. Rebates are a maximum of 30% of the sewer service charges paid for the previous billing period. How: Applications are online from June 1 at Vista.gov/SewerRates and must be submitted by July 30 with income and residency documents.
- Water-saving rebates from Vista Irrigation District. Residential customers of Vista Irrigation District can get rebates on indoor fixtures such as high-efficiency clothes washers and outdoor devices such as weather-based irrigation controllers and rotating nozzles. How: See the list of available rebates at vidwater.org/rebates.
- Leak adjustment after a repaired leak. Vista Irrigation District may adjust water usage charges for a single billing period with exceptionally high use caused by an undetected, unintentional leak on your private plumbing that you have repaired; charges are not waived entirely. How: Read the Leak Adjustment Policy and submit the Leak Adjustment Request Form with supporting documents at vidwater.org.
