South Gate trash pickup: cost and carts
Universal Waste Systems (UWS). Billed by: UWS bills residents directly (since January 1, 2023).

One standard monthly rate covers the trash, recycling and organics carts. This is the rate approved for 2023, the first year of the UWS franchise; the contract allows yearly inflation adjustments from January 2024 that we could not find published, so your current UWS bill may be 10% or more higher. Check your UWS bill.
Changing your cart
Call UWS at 562-334-3660 or email SGCustomerService@uwscompany.com to order additional containers or request exchanges.
Ways to pay less
- Free bulky item pickup, 10 items a month. Universal Waste Systems removes up to ten free bulky items per month for residential customers when scheduled, such as chairs, sofas, appliances, bed frames and mattresses; items past the tenth in a month carry a fee. How: Call UWS at (562) 334-3660 to schedule, then place items on the sidewalk/parkway on the collection date.
